With INTRANAV, driverless transport systems (AGV/FTS) can now look around the corner and
react predictively to changes.

AGVs’ navigation systems are becoming better and more efficient. Some are based on camera systems and others on established laser SLAM technology. This ensures precise control and navigation of AGVs in warehouses and production environments. However, there are still challenges and problems that can only be solved with additional intelligence and innovation. For example, locating in large open spaces or constantly changing areas, as well as locating load carriers (KLTs, pallets,…) in a confusing warehouse or repositionable machines.

With the INTRANAV these challenges are a thing of the past. Together with AGILOX, we were able to successfully and scalably implement the customer request of an automotive supplier.

Through our intelligent AGV software add-on, AGV manufacturers can obtain real-time information about obstacles, changes and location from other road users and load carriers, and use it to optimize their routes and alternative routes. A clear added value for the customer!

1. Load carrier and container tracking

In a plastics production plant, containers are placed on machines. After consumption, the empties are to be collected automatically. However, since the location of the load carriers can change, it is necessary to know exactly where they are located, as the information of the original location may no longer be correct. Also pallets that are placed on storage locations but change their location lead to the question where the new storage location could be.


In both cases, the INTRANAV Suite provides the exact position of the load carriers to be picked up, either as updated parking space information or as a geo-coordinate suitable for the AGV coordinate system. The transport order is constantly updated with the current parking space information, or if it changes, this information is passed on to the AGV control software..

2. Traffic jams and disturbances in transport aisles

Obstacles such as people, forklifts or transport vehicles lead to unwanted stops or malfunctions in rack aisles, transport aisles.


INTRANAV distributes the latest real-time information at any time. AGVs can therefore look “around the corner” and take action in advance. Likewise, the route routes can be optimized so that congestion situations can be avoided in advance. With this additional information, the AGV can bypass the problem.

3. “Blind drives” of AGVs due to limited laser scanner range

Changes are made on large floor spaces. The reference information of the SLAM card must be updated due to the changes on the large footprint. The area and paths are so large that the laser scanners with limited range can no longer detect any contours. The vehicle therefore drives “blind”.


With the help of the INTRANAV Suite and a tiny battery-operated sensor, this positioning information can be used as supporting information for “re-referencing” in order to avoid blind runs and to prevent them in the first place.
